Corsicana City Council Mtg for Cayuga Centers at NC Dawson Auditorium

City of Corsicana Moves Ahead With Cayuga Deal

By Jennifer Miller - Corsicana Daily Sun
The City Council is moving forward with its plans to acquire the former State Home (Texas Youth Facility) property in order to lease it to Cayuga Centers for housing illegal immigrant children. At the close of its Tueday night meeting inside the Dawson Auditorium on the Navarro College Campus, the council voted to ask the state to convey the property to the city.

Residents turned out in record numbers to ask questions to ask questions, voice support and concerns, and get information about Cayuga Centers and the refugee resettlement program the non-profit group desires to implement in Corsicana.

"It is our duty to look at and evaluate each company coming to Corsicana," Mayor Chuck McClanahan said. He also said that health and safety are top priorities to the City Council during the process.

County Commissioners Hear From Residents Regarding State Home Property

By Jennifer Miller - Corsicana Daily Sun
The debate surrounding the possibility of the State Home (TYC Facility) being leased by Cayuga Centers to house illegal immigrant children continued this week as more residents lined up to speak at Monday's Navarro County Commissioners meeting.

While the subject of the State Home property did not appear specifically on the posted agenda, residents turned out to offere their concerns and thank you's to the Court for last week's decision to cease negotiations with Cuyuga Centers.

City of Corsicana Vies for State Home deal with Cayuga Centers

By Jennifer Miller - Corsicana Daily Sun
The City of Corsicana is exploring the option of obtaining the State Home (Texas Youth Commission facility) in order to lease the property to Cayuga Centers for the purpose of housing illegal immigrant children.

At this point, the property is owned by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department and can either be conveyed to the City or County for use, or go to the Texas General Land Office for auction to the highest bidder.

In a July 13 letter to residents from Mayor Chuck McClanahan, a special public meeting was announced for 6 pm, Tuesday, July 19, 2016 in the Dawson Auditorium on the Corsicana Campus of Navarro College, located at 3200 West Seventh Avenue to discuss the matter.

County Commissioners Voted Against Housing Illegal Immigrant Children

By Jennifer Miller - Corsicana Daily Sun
Navarro County Commissioners voted to cease negotiations with Cayuga Centers in regard to housing illegal immigrant children at the former Corsicana State Home facility at Monday July 11 meeting.

The decision followed an Executive Session in which Commissioners consulted with local attorney Terry Jacobson, regarding real property. "We want the Texas Juvenile Justice Department to continue the process of giving the County the property, but Cayuga has deadlines associated with its contract that the County Commissioners are not comfortable with," County Judge H.M. Davenport said.

Declaration Of Independence Signers

Independence Day July 4, 1776

July 4, 2016
Today, July 4th, we celebrate Independence Day - the 240th birthday of America! We also commemorate those who signed the Declaration of Independence and were willing to risk so much. As they acknowledged:

"And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor."

Many of the signers suffered for their actions. Some were hunted, lost homes and property, fled with their families to avoid capture, and had family members captured or killed. Yet despite the high cost, no signer went back on his personal pledge, and America did win its freedom!

U.S. Supreme Court strikes down Texas Pro-Life Bill HB2

June 27, 2016
The U.S. Supreme Court issued its strongest decision against life in a quarter century, striking down Texas HB 2. By a 5-3 vote, the justices rejected the state's arguments that its 2013 law, requiring doctors performing abortions to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals, and forcing clinics to meet hospital-like standards for outpatient surgery. The Supreme Court's ruling not only tramples on states' rights, but it is a disaster for our state's ability to protect both women's health and the life of our most innocent citizens.

Washington Democrats are still upset that Texas voters didn't fall victim to the fight to elect their liberal darling, Wendy Davis, in 2014. You saw her infamous filibuster against this same bill for what it really was: at best, nothing more than political pandering; at worst, a look at just how horrifying the Democrats' views on abortion really are.

While we may have won the battle when Texans elected Governor Greg Abbott, the war is far from over.

Mighty Texas Strike Force 2016

June 28, 2016
To the People of Texas and All Americans in the World,

It is time to act. Our great nation needs your help now. Early polling is showing the Republicans are in jeopardy of losing control of both the U.S. Senate and House and the latest polls are showing Hilary Clinton slightly ahead in the race for the White House. This election will demonstrate one thing: whether we are willing to fight for the American Dream or, if we have surrendered our values and our paycheck to Obamacare and socialist big government.

This year, we are going to fight to the finish line. In the famous words of William B. Travis at the Alamo, “we call on you in the name of liberty, of patriotism and everything dear to the American character, to come to our nation’s aid, with all dispatch”. We are volunteering with the Mighty Texas Strike Force, the grassroots conservative army that deployed thousands of volunteers across the nation to secure GOP victories since 2000.

The 5th Circuit Court Must Uphold Voter ID

by Tom Mechler
I strongly encourage all Justices of the United State Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit to uphold SB 14, better known as Texas Voter ID law. Voter ID is critical to maintaining the integrity of the ballot box and ensuring fair and honest elections. Despite the outlandish accusations by liberals, there is absolutely nothing discriminatory about Voter ID, and its intended purpose is and always has been to prevent fraud in the election process. Repealing SB 14 would open up a plethora of avenues for voter fraud to remain rampant in our state, which is completely unacceptable.

In Defense of Liberty

by Tom Mechler
The Republican Party of Texas is the most dominant state Party in the country, and our Party is larger, most diverse, and more conservative than ever before. Now that our 2016 RPT State Convention has concluded, we are more focused than ever on annihilating Hillary Clinton and her liberal Democrat allies. When Republicans work together, not only do we win, but we win in areas where we have never won before, just like we have already done this year in Texas House District 118. It is imperative that we unite together to take the fight directly to the Democrats.
