Republican Party Of Navarro County -- Working for a Better Tomorrow

"In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizentry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together"
Dwight D. Eisenhower

Flag Day

The Real Story Behind Old Glory
June 14th, is Flag Day, commemorating the same day 239 years ago in 1777 when the Continental Congress passed a resolution "that the flag of the thirteen United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation." Since that time, generations of Americans have celebrated the flag as a symbol of our God-given freedoms and God-blessed nation. In every American military campaign, "Old Glory" has been a symbol of our unique American freedoms and ideals.

Interestingly, "Old Glory" was the name that American merchant sea Captain William Driver placed on the flag that had flown on his ship for years. That American flag became so famous that during the Civil War, Confederates tried to confiscate and destroy it, but were unsuccessful for Captain Driver had sewn it into his bedcover for protection. In 1862, when Union soldiers occupied Nashville, Driver took out his flag and flew it over the state capitol as a symbol that "Old Glory" still stood firm. That nickname is now closely associated with all American flags.

The Fourth of July was traditionally celebrated as America's birthday, but the idea of an annual day specifically celebrating the Flag is believed to have first originated in 1885.

Eddie Moore Takes Precinct 3 County Commissioner Seat

By Jennifer Miller - Corsicana Daily Sun
At the close of election day, Eddie Moore emerged as the Prnct. 3 County Commissioner elect. In the end, 89 votes separated him from fellow candidate Victor "Bubba" Walther.

The highly contested race started with four candidates in the March Primary elections that included Moore, Walther, Matt Rios, and Curtis Lambert. Rios and Lambert were eliminated in the primaries, but neither Moore nor Walther secured the 50 percent needed to win outright, which forced a runoff between the two.

The final vote total for Moore was 438 votes to Walther's 349.

Memorial Day History

May 30, 2016
Three years after the Civil War ended, on May 5, 1868, the head of an organization of Union veterans — the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) — established Decoration Day as a time for the nation to decorate the graves of the war dead with flowers. Maj. Gen. John A. Logan declared that Decoration Day should be observed on May 30. It is believed that date was chosen because flowers would be in bloom all over the country.

The first large observance was held that year at Arlington National Cemetery, across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C.

The ceremonies centered around the mourning-draped veranda of the Arlington mansion, once the home of Gen. Robert E. Lee. Various Washington officials, including Gen. and Mrs. Ulysses S. Grant, presided over the ceremonies. After speeches, children from the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Orphan Home and members of the GAR made their way through the cemetery, strewing flowers on both Union and Confederate graves, reciting prayers and singing hymns.

The 5th Circuit Court Must Uphold Voter ID

by Tom Mechler
I strongly encourage all Justices of the United State Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit to uphold SB 14, better known as Texas Voter ID law. Voter ID is critical to maintaining the integrity of the ballot box and ensuring fair and honest elections. Despite the outlandish accusations by liberals, there is absolutely nothing discriminatory about Voter ID, and its intended purpose is and always has been to prevent fraud in the election process. Repealing SB 14 would open up a plethora of avenues for voter fraud to remain rampant in our state, which is completely unacceptable.

In Defense of Liberty

by Tom Mechler
The Republican Party of Texas is the most dominant state Party in the country, and our Party is larger, most diverse, and more conservative than ever before. Now that our 2016 RPT State Convention has concluded, we are more focused than ever on annihilating Hillary Clinton and her liberal Democrat allies. When Republicans work together, not only do we win, but we win in areas where we have never won before, just like we have already done this year in Texas House District 118. It is imperative that we unite together to take the fight directly to the Democrats.

Department Of Justice Sides With Illegal Aliens' Right To Vote

March 9, 2016
Today, in a federal courthouse in Washington, D.C., the NAACP and other leftists groups are seeking to allow illegal aliens the opportunity to vote.

Three weeks ago these groups sued the Election Assistance Commission (EAC) over its decision permitting specific states to require proof of citizenship in voter registrations. And Obama’s Justice Department sided with the plaintiffs!

Yes, you read that right. The DOJ - the designated attorney of government agencies - left the EAC without counsel. And even more disturbing, the Justice Department fought against the EAC in court!
