Amy Clark, Vice Chair Republican Party Of Texas, will be the guest speaker for the fifth annual “Reagan Day Dinner” to be held at Napoli’s Pizza and Restaurant, 111 East Collin Avenue, in downtown Corsicana on Monday, February 9, at 6:00 pm, sponsored by the Republican Party of Navarro County.

The Reagan Day Dinner is a kick-off for 2015 Republican activities in Navarro County, and also helps to provide operating funds for our local office.

 Byron Cook Headed for Seventh Term in Texas House

Corsicana — State Rep. Byron Cook (R-Corsicana) won the Republican primary for District 8 State Representative Tuesday, heading toward a seventh term representing Navarro, Hill, Freestone and Anderson counties.

Cook was challenged by Frost businessman Bobby Vickery and retired engineer Charles E. Morgan in the GOP primary. There were no Democratic candidates for the post.

Cook led the district-wide vote with 10,223 votes — 58.62 percent of votes cast. Vickery received 6,107 votes, 35.01 percent. Morgan had 1,109 votes, or 6.35 percent. Cook carried each of the four counties in the district.

Corsicana — In Navarro County elections, Dick Martin won reelection to his seat as county commissioner for precinct 2 over challenger Leon Tates by 518 to 361, or nearly 59 percent to 41 percent.

Corsicana — For County Treasurer, there was an upset as incumbent Frank Hull was defeated by just over 100 votes by Ryan Douglas, a part-time clerk in the treasurer’s office. That vote was 2,095 to 1,983, or 51.3 percent to 48.6 percent in favor of the challenger Douglas.

Corsicana — The fourth annual Reagan Day Dinner, a fundraiser for the Republican Party of Navarro County, was well-attended Monday with about 145 guests at the Napoli’s Restaurant in downtown Corsicana.

The guest speaker was Texas State Sen. Brian Birdwell (R-Granbury), who talked about the reality of conservatism.

Steve Jessup of Corsicana has been named State Senate District 22 Republican Volunteer Of The Year by State Republican Executive Committee members Janet Jackson and Frank Steed. Jessup, a longtime leader and member of the Republican Party Of Navarro County, was recognized for his involvement in the 2012 campaign. Jessup, along with the other 30 State Senate District Volunteers of the Year, were honored by the Republican Party Of Texas on Friday September 27 in Austin. State Senate District 22 consists of ten counties surrounding Waco TX.
