Danda Parker, who created the position of Elections Officer, has resigned from the County, with Friday January 26 as her last day. The County hosted a reception in her honor to bid her farewell after over 20 years of service to Navarro County.

Parker is going to work for Elections Systems and Software, the company that makes the voting machines the County recently purchased.

“If we had known when we bought those machines they were going to come get her, we might not have bought them,” said Dick Martin, Precinct. 2 Commissioner, laughingly. “But if we have problems, we know who to call.”

Parker served 21 years with the county in various capacities, most recently as Elections Officer, the first and only one in Navarro County.

“It’s going to be a change,” Parker said. “I appreciate everything you all have done, and especially Roger (Francia) for picking up the slack the last couple of weeks.”

In other business, a brief Commissioner’s meeting was held prior to the reception, in which the four Commissioners (County Judge H.M. Davenport had court and was not there) made a unanimous decision to close two roads in Precinct 1, 1.4 miles of NW CR 1060, and 6/10ths of a mile on NW CR 1080.
