Wright Reintroduces Pro-Life Bills

Washington, D.C. – This morning, Congressman Ron Wright (TX-06) reaffirmed his commitment to standing up for the unborn by reintroducing the Teleabortion Prevention Act and Child Custody Protection Act in the 117th Congress.

“In honor of the tens of thousands of pro-life Americans that are coming together virtually today at the March for Life, I am proud to reintroduce the Teleabortion Prevention Act and The Child Custody Protection Act,” said Congressman Wright. “With the Biden Administration and Congressional Democrats already gunning to roll back abortion restrictions, it's more important than ever that we continue to be a strong voice for the voiceless. Both these bills help prevent the destruction of unborn life, safeguard women’s health, and protect the conscience rights of millions of Americans. The sanctity of life has been my top priority and an issue I will continue to devote my life protecting."

The Child Custody Protection Act: This legislation would make it a federal offense to transport a minor across state lines in order to circumvent a state law requiring parental involvement in that minor’s abortion. Adults who knowingly transport a minor across state lines to bypass parental consent or notification laws would be subject to criminal and civil penalties, including fines, up to a year in prison, or both.

The Teleabortion Prevention Act: This legislation protects women’s health by making it a federal offense for healthcare providers to perform a chemical abortion without first physically examining the patient, being present during the chemical abortion, and scheduling a follow-up visit for the patient. During this practice known as teleabortion, which gets its name from practitioners conducting abortions over the phone or computer, chemical abortions are induced with no healthcare provider present. This practice is incredibly dangerous due to serious complications, such as incomplete abortions, infections, severe bleeding, and death, that can arise.

Congressman Wright is proud to have received an endorsement from Susan B. Anthony List and The National Right to Life Committee for the Teleabortion Prevention Act.
